PTO?

I just read a job description that said this:

"Paid time off every year to volunteer"

What an interesting idea! It's nice, but at the same time, is that really paid time off? You're still working... and for your company, if indirectly.

So it's not really paid time off.

I like the idea, but it also doesn't make any sense.

Part of me wonders if there's zero REAL paid time off at this company, and this is their way of having the jargon "PTO" show up in their job listing.

And, if you get your whole company to participate in this charade, you can say things like, "Every year, our employees donate 80,000 hours to helping the needy!"

Then the company gets brownie points with their clientele.

Marketing scheme, or am I just heartless? Probably some of both.
