the O.C. Mix 1 CD--how is it?

"Nothing can compare to when you hold the dice and you swear your love's for me..."
That is the one and only good slow song on the O.C. Mix 1 CD that I bought two days ago, which is naturally a bit disappointing. The best song on the thing by far is "The Way We Get By", by Spoon. I'm listening to it now. Very cool tune it is. I guess when you're actually watching the show the music is really great because it's in the background, but on the CD it's all you hear--there's no visual distraction, so you realize the songs actually suck.'s cool that the show sticks up for the little bands. I remember freaking out when I heard Guster's "Keep It Together" in one of the episodes. I just looooove Guster, and it was so awesome to have a band playing that I personally adored that wasn't well known--but they've made their break. All of the O.C. featured bands have become fairly big now, and it's no surprise. One aspect of the album that I was particularly put out about was the fact that Rooney's "Shakin'" was not included! Infact, not one Rooney song was on the thing. I mean, come ON, the group performed at a concert that our beloved main characters went to, and several Rooney songs have appeared throughout the series, the makers of the CD have got to know that. Jem's "Just A Ride" proved at first to be a cute, cheery little song but "California" performed by Phantom Planet is as usual a great selection, and serves as the final track of Mix 1. All in all, the songs are not actually all that great if you like substance and excitement in your music; but if you're a mellow yellow, these tunes are perfect for your taste. And if you're a diehard fan of the show but detest sappy slow songs, get the CD and play only the even numbered tracks. Most of those will leave you somewhat satisfied. So, what are you waiting for? Buy the thing or don't already!
